Giordana Women's AV Extreme Lyte Winter Jacket Info

The Giordana Women's AV Extreme Lyte Winter Jacket is a lightweight winter jacket that Giordana built around breathability, so you can push the pace in the cold without overheating. Giordana positions it as the lighter jacket for a wider temperature range than the standard AV Extreme.

Three working parts

Acqua Zero Eco nanotechnology is applied across the jacket for rain and wind protection. The front, shoulders and arms use a breathable DVstretch membrane for the most protection. The back has a thermal panel with a high-density knit and the same Acqua Zero Eco treatment, which Giordana says lets heat and perspiration escape during hard efforts.

The interior is 90g Polartec Alpha Direct insulation. Giordana says its lofted fibers are inherently hydrophobic and resist moisture, so the lining releases excess body heat before it causes saturation. The brand rates the Lyte for roughly the high 50s down to the mid 30s F, and notes that individual comfort, effort level and base layer thickness will move that range.

Fit and features

The cut is slightly relaxed but body conforming, made to go over a lightweight thermal jersey or a winter base layer. There is a high, ergonomic fleece-lined collar, elastic straight-cut cuffs and a reflective drop tail below the rear pockets. A zippered front side pocket adds storage, and reflective accents sit on the back pocket and the left wrist.

It comes in black and Avio blue, sizes XS through 3XL. Wash cold at 30° C with no bleach and no iron, and hang or lay flat to dry.

The RA Perspective

The Lyte is the jacket for riders who run warm. It uses 90g Polartec Alpha Direct and a thermal back panel, and Giordana rates it from the high 50s down to the mid 30s F. That is a wide window for a winter jacket, and it covers a lot of fall and spring riding as well.

The panel layout is what makes it work. The protective DVstretch membrane sits at the front, shoulders and arms, which take the wind. The back is a breathable thermal panel, so the heat you build on a climb has somewhere to go. Alpha Direct is designed to move moisture away from your body instead of holding it, which helps when you are working hard and then coasting.

The tradeoff is cold-weather headroom. The stated range stops at the mid 30s F, so on deep winter days you need a heavier jacket or serious layering. The Acqua Zero Eco finish also makes it water resistant, not waterproof, so heavy rain will test it.

We would point someone to the Lyte if they ride hard in cool conditions, do not like to feel bundled up, and want a jacket that does not need to come off halfway through the ride. A thin base layer and a light jersey underneath is the setup Giordana designed for.
