It's the rear derailleur at the heart of Shimano's 11-speed mechanical gravel groupset, and it carries some clear influence from the mountain bike side of the catalogue.

The most practical feature for off-road riding is the integrated chain stabilizer, which reduces chain slap and keeps the drivetrain quieter on rough ground. You can switch it on or off depending on conditions — leave it active on chunky gravel or trail, turn it off on smoother surfaces. The derailleur also sits low and close to the frame, a deliberate design choice that reduces exposure in a crash and helps protect the mechanism when the trail gets tight. It runs 11-speed and supports cassettes up to 42T, giving you the gear range to handle steep climbs without sacrificing top-end gearing on faster sections.

Shimano GRX RD-RX812 Rear Derailleur Specs at a Glance

Speed: 11-speed

Chainring compatibility: 1x or 2x

Max low sprocket: 42T

Total capacity: 31T

Weight: 267g

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0608/7684/9196/files/shimano-grx-rd-rx812-rear-derailleur-4785881.jpg?v=1771295227
