Built on Lake's CX/TX Competition Last with a 100% carbon fiber sole, the CX21C delivers the same fit geometry and power transfer platform found in Lake's higher-end road lineup — wrapped in a clean, classically styled microfiber upper that prioritizes comfort and fit adjustability over gadgetry. For riders who've always preferred the precision of laces over dials, this is the shoe.

The single-piece Clarino Microfiber upper is padded throughout and designed to wrap the foot with uniform contact — no hard edges, no pressure points from panel seams. An internal gripper heel liner keeps the heel locked against the cup during the pedal stroke, while a minimal toe bumper protects the front of the shoe without adding bulk to the toe box. Lake describes the fit as conforming like a second skin, which is a reasonable description of what a well-laced cycling shoe actually feels like compared to a two-dial BOA system when you get the tension exactly where you want it.

Specs at a Glance

Last: CX/TX Competition — increased toe pitch and heel lift, tighter heel, wider ball girth for pedaling pressure

Outsole: Lake Competition 100% carbon fiber, 3-hole cleat pattern

Upper: Clarino Microfiber, padded single-piece construction, internal gripper heel liner

Closure: Traditional laces — durable, replaceable

Toe Box: Naturally formed with minimal toe bumper

Cleat Compatibility: 3-hole (road)

Sizes: 36–52 (Regular fit)

Design Benefits

Competition Last in an accessible package. The CX/TX Competition Last is the same geometry Lake uses across their performance road lineup — a more curved profile than the Sport last, with a tighter heel and a slightly wider ball girth that accommodates natural foot expansion under load. You get a precision fit platform without paying for a premium closure system.

100% carbon fiber sole. There's no nylon or composite blend here — the CX21C runs a full carbon competition sole, the same spec as Lake's flagship models. That means direct, unfiltered power transfer and a platform stiff enough to make the fit geometry of the Competition Last fully effective.

Lace closure done right. Laces offer a type of fit precision that dials and ratchets can't fully replicate — infinite micro-adjustment across the entire upper, distributable tension from toe box to tongue, and no mechanical parts to fail or replace. The CX21C's replaceable laces are a practical detail that extends the life of the shoe and keeps maintenance simple.

Clarino Microfiber upper. Clarino is a synthetic microfiber specifically chosen for breathability and durability — it ventilates better than leather under sustained effort and holds its shape across a wide range of temperatures. The single-piece construction means there are no seams on the top of the foot to create pressure points.

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0608/7684/9196/files/LAKE-CX21C-WHITE-WHITE-1_e9070048-a206-4996-855d-7b15e51f226c.jpg?v=1774041675
