Giordana Women's SilverLine Thermal Vest Info

The Giordana Women's SilverLine Thermal Vest is a winter training vest built around a three-layer membrane fabric with increased thermal properties. Giordana designed the membrane to shield against wind and cold and to hold body heat while staying thin enough that it does not feel bulky.

Where the fabrics go

The side panels, back and pockets use 260-gram AcquaZero Blizzard fabric. The breathable side panels are there to help manage moisture, so you are not trapped in a vest that holds sweat against your base layer. A fleece-lined ergonomic collar adds warmth at the neck.

Details

Reflective accents sit at the sides of the waist, the shoulder and the center rear pocket. The materials are 86% nylon and 14% elastane. It is made in Italy and is machine washable at 40 degrees C or less on a reduced cycle; hang or lay flat to dry.

Colors are Sangria, Arctic Blue, Dove Grey and Black, in sizes XS through 3XL.

The RA Perspective

A vest is the layer we reach for when the core needs wind protection and the arms do not. The SilverLine Thermal Vest handles that job with a three-layer membrane up front, plus breathable side panels so heat and moisture have somewhere to go.

Giordana says the vest is warm enough for daily winter training. We would read that as a cold-season layer, not a deep winter one. It is thin by design, so on its own over a jersey it will cover a lot of mornings, but in the coldest weather you will want a long-sleeve base layer and likely a jacket as well. The fleece-lined collar is a nice touch for the neck, which is where a lot of the chill gets in.

The tradeoff is the one every vest carries: bare arms. It is a good fit for riders who run warm or who ride in changeable conditions, and a poor fit for anyone who wants full upper-body coverage from the start. The panels are chosen for moisture management, but the membrane front will not breathe the way an open mesh does, so zip down if you are climbing.

Overall we see it as a flexible piece for fall, winter and spring training. The four colors are a useful range if you want something visible or something more subdued.
