Giordana Women's FR-C Tri Jersey Info

The Giordana Women's FR-C Tri Jersey is the women's version of the FR-C Pro Triathlon Short Sleeve Jersey, a top that Giordana adapted from the jerseys professional teams wear at the hardest races. It is sold in white and black, from XS to 2XL. Giordana's intent is a piece you reach for in training as readily as on race day.

Fit and fabrics

The fit is described as a second skin, close enough to give most of the aero benefit of a race suit without wearing one. Seam placement does part of that job. Apart from the zipper, the front panels, shoulders and arms are virtually seamless, so the jersey stretches over the torso and arms without bunching or binding.

The front and shoulders use waffled Borgini fabric, UPF 15+, for stretch and wicking. The back panel is Aero High Speed Light Lycra, UPF 35+, which has a striped texture for better airflow and holds the rest of the jersey in place. Aliseo mesh, a fabric with generous stretch, covers the hips, pockets and underarms.

Details that matter on a long day

A full-length zipper finishes with a zipper garage at the top to prevent chafing at the chin. Overlock stitching keeps seams small and limits overlapping fabric. Stay Put bands, 5cm wide, sit on the sleeves and below the pockets to keep the jersey from riding up while you pedal or run.

Both pockets are reached from the sides, which Giordana points out is handy whether you are riding or running. The jersey is made in Italy and is available through the Giordana Custom program.

The RA Perspective

This is a tri jersey for women who want a race-cut top without committing to a full suit. The front and arms are close to seamless, so nothing bunches up on the torso when you are down in the aero position, and the striped back panel keeps the whole thing from flapping once you are moving.

The side-access pockets are a small thing that adds up. Reaching behind you on the bike is easy enough, but being able to get at a gel from the side is more comfortable when you are on the run leg or tucked on the bars. The wide Stay Put bands on the sleeves and below the pockets are there to keep the jersey from creeping up, and that is the first thing that goes wrong with a tight top once it gets wet.

The tradeoff is the same one you get with any second-skin race jersey. It is cut to fit close, so sizing matters, and if you like a relaxed fit for long training days you may find it more snug than a regular road jersey. The striped fabric that helps with airflow is on the back only, with waffled Borgini fabric in the front, so the aero gain is a modest edge, not a transformation.

We would suggest it for triathletes and duathletes who want something to race in that is still comfortable enough for training rides. If you already own a tri suit, this works as a separate option for hotter days and longer sessions.
