Giordana Women's FR-C Pro Thermal Long Sleeve Jersey Info

The Giordana Women's FR-C Pro Thermal Long Sleeve Jersey is a lightweight thermal jersey for cool-weather rides. Giordana made it with a fleece-like fabric and a thermal interior that wicks moisture during hard efforts, and it fits closely enough to wear under a jacket.

Fabric and range

The 4-way stretch material is engineered for cold and windy days, and Giordana says it adapts to a wide range of conditions. Colder rides call for more under or over it: Giordana suggests pairing it with base layers, vests or a jacket. The fabric is soft, lofty and fleece-like with a high thread count per square centimeter, and Giordana lists it as Pro Team issue using the same fabric as Team Astana. The composition is 83% nylon and 17% elastane.

Pockets and visibility

There are three rear cargo pockets with a large, deep reflective zippered pocket above them for small essentials. A reflective Giordana logo on the left arm and a reflective rear waistband add visibility in poor light. The collar is ergonomically designed.

The jersey is made in Italy and comes in Teaberry pink, mustard yellow or black, sized XS to 3XL.

The RA Perspective

Some thermal jerseys feel like a sweatshirt and some feel like a second layer of skin. The FR-C Pro Thermal falls into the second group. The fabric is a thin, fleece-like knit with four-way stretch, and Giordana lists it as the same fabric used by its Pro Team. That makes it warm for its weight, and it moves with you when you are tucked into a fast group ride.

The pocket setup is generous. Three rear cargo pockets sit under a large, deep zippered pocket with reflective trim. That zippered pocket is a good place for a phone or keys in wet weather, since it keeps them away from the open pockets below. The reflective logo and waistband help in low light, which counts in fall and winter when rides end near dusk.

The tradeoff is simple. It is a lightweight thermal, not a winter coat. Giordana describes it as suited to cool temperatures and says it extends to colder rides with a base layer, vest or jacket, and that is what we would expect. In a stiff wind or real cold, you will need a second layer over it. The fit is close, so if you plan to layer a thick base layer underneath, try it on with that in mind.

We would pick it for cool mornings and shoulder-season rides, as the jersey you can wear alone on a mild day and under a jacket when the temperature falls.
