The Giordana Men's FR-C Tri Doppio Suit sits between a one-piece skinsuit and a separate jersey and shorts. Giordana drew the idea from the aero work done by professional road racers, and the goal was to keep the speed of a skinsuit while keeping the comfort of a two-piece kit. It comes in white and black, in sizes S through 3XL.
Why the top is sewn to the bottoms
Giordana explains the construction in three parts. Joining the top to the bottoms lets the jersey wrap over the shoulders and hold the legs and chamois in place, however wet you are and however much you move. It also stretches the jersey tight for a cleaner aero profile, so the pockets stay put when loaded. The front zipper runs the full length, and the front is not attached to the bottoms, which Giordana says makes the suit feel less binding when you are running or need a quick stop.
Fabrics for the top and the bottoms
All of the top panels use Aero High Speed Light fabric, UPF 35+, woven with stripes that act as virtual trip wires to improve airflow over the body. Giordana says this ridged fabric on the sleeves and front torso is even more aero than bare skin. The bottoms use three kinds of compressive Lycra Power, UPF 50+, with a DWR finish that limits water absorption and holds up to chlorinated water in the swim.
The chamois is tri-specific, sewn into the bottoms with Tri-Stitch construction for durability, and the top layer is aloe vera-infused fabric. Internal silicone tape on the sleeves and legs grips the skin without digging in, and the leg hems finish with 7.5cm Stay Put bands to keep pressure low. A flap lines the inside of the full zipper to prevent abrasion, and four-needle stitching is used throughout.
Pockets
Two side-access mesh pockets at the back of the jersey stretch enough to hold anything from gels to a vest and warmers. Two front pockets on the shorts sit out of the way of your legs and hold bars and gels within easy reach. The suit is made in Italy and is part of the Giordana Custom program.
