The C72 frame is constructed from 7 modular carbon parts, hand-assembled at Colnago's Cambiago facility through a process that has defined the C Series since the early 1990s. Carbon tubes are produced by an Italian supplier in Pordenone, bonded and shaped in Cambiago, and hand-finished with carbon bandaging before each frame is painted by hand with an airbrush in Cascina. A size 48.5 unpainted frame weighs 895g — 30g lighter than the C68 — and the platform is capable of supporting a complete build well under 7kg with the right component choices.

For a builder, what matters as much as weight is what the frame is designed to do. Colnago's answer with the C72 is "perfectly composed" — a race frame built for maximum riding pleasure rather than maximum stiffness. Where the V5Rs is tuned for WorldTour power and pure efficiency, the C72 is calibrated for the rider who demands speed without sacrificing feel. The geometry has been updated from the C68 with a higher stack-to-reach ratio, which creates more flexibility in setup — whether you're targeting an aggressive race position or a more sustainable fit for longer days.

Two structural changes define what's new on the C72. The rear triangle and seat area have been redesigned to improve compliance — road vibration is absorbed more effectively, which matters on long efforts and rougher surfaces. Tire clearance has been opened to 35mm (nominal), giving builders meaningful options when choosing wheels and tires. The panel-gap aesthetic at each lug junction — where alignment and continuity are treated with the same precision as the structural bonds beneath them — is a visual expression of Colnago's intention: nothing on this frame is accidental.

Design Benefits

Modular carbon construction, hand-built in Italy. The 7-part frame uses individual moulds for each section, allowing greater care and quality control than a single monocoque mould can achieve. Hand-assembly in Cambiago means every joint is inspected during construction, and the carbon bandaging at each junction creates a smooth, finished surface while reinforcing the bond. Colnago has been refining this process since the C40 won Paris-Roubaix — the modular approach is a considered choice, not a legacy constraint.

Lighter and more compliant than the C68. At 895g for a size 48.5 frame, the C72 is 30g lighter than its predecessor. The redesigned rear triangle and seat area improve road vibration absorption without softening the frame's responsiveness under load. Both changes are meaningful over long efforts and on imperfect roads.

Updated geometry with more setup flexibility. The increased stack-to-reach ratio gives builders more room when dialing in fit. The C72 supports a range of positions — from a committed race setup to something more sustainable for endurance days — while maintaining the race geometry that has always defined the C Series.

Broad component compatibility. BSA 68mm bottom bracket threading, flat mount disc brakes, and a braze-on front derailleur mount make the C72 compatible with the full range of current road components from Shimano, SRAM, and Campagnolo. The standard 1-1/8" tapered fork steerer works with any road stem. No proprietary constraints.

Blockchain registration. Register the frame through the Colnago app within 30 days of purchase and the statutory 2-year warranty extends to 3 years. Registration also creates a permanent ownership record — useful for insurance, authenticity verification, and secondary market resale.

Final Take

The C72 Frameset is the starting point for a custom Colnago road build done on your terms. The frame itself delivers everything that defines the C Series — Italian handcraft, modular carbon construction, a ride character that balances speed with feel — and the broad component compatibility means you're free to build it with whatever drivetrain, cockpit, and wheels suit your riding. Seven sizes and four colorways provide real options. If you're building up a high-end road machine and want a frame with genuine heritage and the ride quality to match, the C72 is the right place to start.

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0608/7684/9196/files/COLNAGO-C72-FRAMESET-HFRD_64fbfdde-dfbe-40f6-b51e-db0c30b0e7a8.jpg?v=1776795070
