Capo G.S. Padrone Leggero Wind Jacket Info

The Capo G.S. Padrone Leggero Wind Jacket is a mid-weight, long-sleeve cycling jacket built for the wide band of weather between a jersey-and-vest day and full winter kit. Capo rates it for roughly 40 to 60°F, and the design brief was specific: warm enough for long, steady base miles, yet able to shed heat when the pace lifts so you don't finish an early-season tempo session soaked in sweat.

Wind protection where it counts

The jacket splits its work between two fabrics. The chest, the front of the sleeves and the collar use WindTex Shield, a windproof, breathable and water-resistant microfiber with a smooth outer face and a brushed inside for steady warmth. That covers the parts of you that take the wind head-on on a fast descent. Everything else, including the back, the pockets and the underside of the sleeves, is Thermo Roubaix with a DWR finish. The brushed fleece holds heat on a cold morning while letting more moisture escape through the back, where you build up the most sweat on a climb.

A race fit with practical details

The cut is close and anatomic, with a tapered Padrone collar that seals out drafts at the neck without choking you when you're down on the drops. Slim elastic cuffs slide neatly under or over a glove, and Capo's waist elastic keeps the hem in place when you're out of the saddle. A two-way Vislon YKK camlock zipper lets you open the jacket from the top or the bottom to dump heat without stopping, and it locks in position so it won't creep down on rough roads.

Storage follows the standard three-pocket layout, plus a fourth zippered security pocket with a weather lining for a phone or keys. The fabric blend is 50% polyester, 40% nylon and 10% elastane, and the jacket is made in Italy.

On its own, the Leggero suits mild spring and fall days. Capo suggests adding base layers underneath to push it colder, which makes it a useful one-jacket answer for riders who head out in changeable shoulder-season weather. It comes in black, sizes S through XXL.

The RA Perspective

The Leggero fills the gap most riders struggle with: those 45-degree mornings that turn into 60-degree afternoons. A full thermal jacket is too much once you warm up, and a jersey with a wind vest leaves your arms cold on the descents. This jacket puts the windproof fabric on the front and the breathable Thermo Roubaix on the back, which is the right split for that kind of day.

We like the two-way zipper here. Opening it from the bottom lets air in without flapping the collar open, and the camlock means it stays where you put it. The fourth zippered pocket is a small thing, but having your phone sealed away from sweat and road spray is worth it in the shoulder season.

The tradeoff is that this is not a rain jacket. The front panel is water resistant, which handles mist and road spray, but in a steady downpour you'll want a proper shell. The fit is close too, so if you plan to layer a thick thermal jersey underneath, think about sizing.

This is the jacket for riders who do structured training through spring and fall and want one piece that copes with a 15-degree swing over a ride. Pair it with a long-sleeve base layer and it covers a lot of the year.
